Judy’s Journey

With an estimated 6.7 million Kenyans currently unemployed, Redemptive Dance Ministries (RDM) is creating jobs—and hope—through dance.

Judy’s Journey: From Village Dreamer to Chapter Leader Empowering 100 Kenyan Youth

Growing up in a small village near Lake Victoria, Judy often gazed at airplanes overhead, imagining the important lives and distant places they carried. She never believed she would set foot on one herself. Yet in March 2024, Judy boarded a domestic flight as a staff member of RDM’s Kenyan Dance Program—and wept with gratitude.
Judy’s connection to RDM began when Colorado friends introduced her to Heather Johnson just before a mission’s trip to Kenya. They had sponsored Judy through Compassion International as a child. RDM offered training, mentorship, and a paid position to launch a community dance chapter. Eighteen months later, Judy now runs weekly classes for 100 participants, providing not only dance instruction but meals, leadership development, and discipleship.
Her employment matters far beyond the dance floor. In a country where millions search for work, Judy’s role delivers:
  • Reliable income that lifts her family’s economic outlook.
  • Leadership training that positions her as a role model to girls and boys in her region.
  • Community ripple effects — every child she teaches gains confidence, discipline, and the vision that they, too, can rise above circumstance.

Dance carried me farther than I ever dreamed,” Judy says. “Now I carry that hope to my students.
